Synopsis
This coming-of-age series, based on the writer’s life, followers middle schooler Rex as he learns to be comfortable in his own skin.
Notes on This Title
The focal character of this series is Latino. He is entering sixth grade at the beginning of the first book.
The first volume, Four Eyes, tells the story of him realizing he needs glasses.
The second volume, Pizza Face, relates his experiences beginning puberty and dealing with acne.
The third volume, Fruitcake, shows him coming to terms with the fact that he might be gay and depicts him being confronted with homophobia.
The series overall deals with themes of poverty, bullying, acceptance, and belonging.
Rex Ogle has written other titles under the pen name Rey Terciero.
